Siloing Strategy

What is Silo?

“A silo is a vertical page linking design. You have your landing page, or your main page, at the top of the silo and underneath this page you have pages which support your main landing page theme.”

What is Siloing Content?

If you have your keyword silos/themes in place, you’re already on your way to writing your themed content. Each page on your site should have a theme and discuss a specific topic. This content should be optimized for the assigned keywords. Using this method allows you to craft content themes around your keywords and this helps make these pages/sections of your site more relevant and authoritative.

What is a Keyword silo?

Before you even write one piece of content, you should take a step back and create silos, or themes, for your keywords. If you are going to create highly-relevant content with targeted keywords, you first need a plan as to where each of your keywords will go. After conducting your keyword research, go ahead and group your keywords according to topic/theme.

What are Directory silos?

You can use your site architecture to split your site into multiple themes. This method is also called directory silos. This tactic groups like content pages into a tightly organized and themed directory within your site.

There are several ways to create silos:

1) Tagging
2) Categories
3) Directories
4) Related pages plugin
5) ONLY link to landing pages using your Target keyword.
6) Create a mini-sitemap on each page within your silo.

What are the steps involved in it?

1. Create Categories that are deeply focused
2. Treat each Category along with co-coordinating sub pages as separate web pages.
3. Begin internal linking: Link category content pages to one another.
4. Start backlinking: Each silo or category/sub 4 category niche receives its own backlinking campaign.
