Siloing Strategy – to rank well for both common and targeted keywords



Siloing is nothing but architecturally structuring the website to get the Search Engines to recognize your site for your targeted keywords. It will let the Search Engines to consider you as the subject matter expert.

What is Silo?

“A silo is a vertical page linking design. You have your landing page, or your main page, at the top of the silo and underneath this page you have pages which support your main landing page theme.”

What is Siloing Content?

If you have your keyword silos/themes in place, you’re already on your way to writing your themed content. Each page on your site should have a theme and discuss a specific topic. This content should be optimized for the assigned keywords. Using this method allows you to craft content themes around your keywords and this helps make these pages/sections of your site more relevant and authoritative.

What is a Keyword silo?

Before you even write one piece of content, you should take a step back and create silos, or themes, for your keywords. If you are going to create highly-relevant content with targeted keywords, you first need a plan as to where each of your keywords will go. After conducting your keyword research, go ahead and group your keywords according to topic/theme.

What are Directory silos?

You can use your site architecture to split your site into multiple themes. This method is also called directory silos. This tactic groups like content pages into a tightly organized and themed directory within your site.

2. Link your blog posts to your main site pages. Link to the Homepage, silo pages and corresponding content pages.
3. Link blog static pages to blog posts.
4. Do deep link and do change the anchor text.
5. Try to stick to one link per 100 words on your blog posts.
6. Link posts to other posts.

1. The standard silo landing page is replaced by static blog pages. Related content is assigned to the representing page.
2. Individual blot posts gain exposure and traffic and pass the increased page rank to each blog page.

Why do search engines have problems with dynamic websites



1. Dynamic web page does not exist when search engine Robots are reading the pages.

2. The search engine Robots usually do not read character such as "?", "%", "$" "#", "&", "*", "!"

3. Search engines usually consider dynamic Website as never ending links.

4. Search engines robots will get stock in an infinite loop specially if the dynamic page has Session ID

5. As all the pages is generated through database, a dynamic page does not exist as a file on a hosting server, as a static html page does until the request comes for a page, when a crawler comes to the website, does not get that pages to crawl every time, so crawler avoid those pages next time to crawl.

6. Database generated pages URL is called dynamic URLs, dynamic URL is not easy to read by human as well as search engine spiders.

7. Dynamic site can dramatically reduce your visibility in the search engines. Even though some engines spider dynamic URLs, others still do not. Those that do spider them may still place artificial limits on how deep they will travel within such links.

8. Typically such pages have a question mark (?) in the URL (or not). When a search engine crawler arrives at such a page, it captures the content but halts immediately, and will not follow the links, because it sees ahead of it an infinite number of pages.

9. Even after you make these changes, there will still be time-outs (search engines time-out quickly), and the code is usually poorly written for the search engine spiders. The pages are usually all one template, making it difficult to add keywords and to modify each page for keyword frequency.

10. If you create a static doorway page with a no follow tag, you will be hard pressed to get your website listed with the same ranking as other websites with hundreds of static pages and optimized code.

11. Indexing the same dynamic page might overload the servers of the search engines and therefore prevent the search engines to present with the most relevant information in the fastest possible time.

Yahoo! does index dynamic pages, but to discover pages, our web crawler mostly follows static links. We recommend that you avoid using dynamically generated links except in directories that are not intended to be crawled or indexed and for which you have employed robots.txt exclusion.

Here is what MSN - BING says about indexing of dynamic websites-

Long Dynamic URL - Returns URLs from your website that has exceptionally long query strings. Long query strings can create an infinite loop for search engines due to the large number of potential combinations of parameters. Use this report to view the URLs that Bing has flagged as being potentially too long. You can then investigate ways to shorten them.

Quantum Algorithm and Google



As per Wikipedia, " In quantum computing, a quantum algorithm is an algorithm which runs on a realistic model of quantum computation, the most commonly used model being the quantum circuit model of computation. A classical (or non-quantum) algorithm is a finite sequence of instructions, or a step-by-step procedure for solving a problem, where each step or instruction can be performed on a classical computer. Similarly, a quantum algorithm is a step-by-step procedure, where each of the steps can be performed on a quantum computer. Although all classical algorithms can also be performed on a quantum computer, the term quantum algorithm is usually used for those algorithms which seem inherently quantum, or use some essential feature of quantum computation such as quantum superposition or quantum entanglement."

Google has spent the past three years developing a quantum algorithm that can automatically recognize and sort objects from still images or video. Google has been using a quantum computing device created by D-Wave, a Canadian firm. But a lack of information about how D-Wave's chip.

"Unfortunately, it is not easy to demonstrate that a multi-qubit system such as the D-Wave chip indeed exhibits the desired quantum behavior and experimental physicists from various institutions are still in the process of characterizing the chip," wrote Hartmut Neven, head of Google's image recognition team, on the Google research blog.

Hartmut Neven, Technical Lead Manager Image Recognition said, "Many Google services we offer depend on sophisticated artificial intelligence technologies such as machine learning or pattern recognition. If one takes a closer look at such capabilities one realizes that they often require the solution of what mathematicians call hard combinatorial optimization problems. It turns out that solving the hardest of such problems requires server farms so large that they can never be built. A new type of machine, a so-called quantum computer, can help here."

Whatever D-Wave built has apparently worked for Google. Google's image recognition team has previously made its algorithms work for better online image searches and automatic photo organization. Perhaps we shouldn't be too surprised that the Google folk have also delved into quantum computing or at least something much faster than existing classical computing.

Google Caffeine – A new version of Google Search is on its way



Google Caffeine is a fantastic speedy version of Google’s current search engine form. Most of the changes have been server and database related to make the whole process of making a search a much quicker and more pleasurable experience. We are all speed freaks, and Google caffeine will not disappoint us at that point.

In a Google announcement they said that, "Based on the success Google have seen, they believe Caffeine is ready for a larger audience. Soon they will activate Caffeine more widely, beginning with one data center".

On the other hand, Matt Cutts said that Caffeine will not be officially mainstream till the beginning of 2010, until then that one server will enjoy the Caffeine benefits. According to Google's Matt Cutts the all new Caffeine Search Engine has already begun to roll out and is 'now working at 50-percent in the 209.85.225.103 data center.'

Matt Cutts also stated that, “I know that webmasters can get anxious around this time of year, so I wanted to reassure site owners that the full Caffeine roll out will happen after the holidays”.

Google says Caffeine, the next version of its search-engine infrastructure, will soon be available to a wider audience, offering technology designed to deliver faster and more accurate results. Google has provided no specific launch date, but says Caffeine should be fully deployed early in 2010.

Caffeine looks unlikely to alter the familiar look of Google search, but will work in the background, improving the engine's index size, indexing speed and accuracy. Unlike Google's regular updates to its search technology, the new engine represents a significant change in part of the company's search infrastructure.

Caffeine Search is easily the most predictable change on the web. According to many expert statements Google Caffeine is not only faster, but in some instances seems more proficient of producing real-time results.

Google Page Rank Update on October 2009, January 2010



After June 2009, Google has started the PR update process and the changes were reflected in end of October 2009. Google updates the PR at an interval of 3 months or so but this time they took more time. Its coz of Google Google Wave release and then they were also busy in Google Caffeine. Webmaster team is also busy in the upgrading the Webmaster Tool. But this time lot many websites confirming the news that Google has started the process and they will be done by the update by end of October 2009.

When I was checking some of my client sites on October, 2009, I noticed that their PR went up from 1 to 3 and many internal pages have gained PR. So, it is sure that It Google is rolling out a long awaited Page Rank update in this last week of October. The last Page Rank update prior to this one was in June 2009, which may have just been a technical quirk because the one prior to that was just a month before in May.

Page Rank is a very important factor for any blog or website. It shows your site’s social status and power. The problem is that only Google officials know when will be the next update. After all, Google is now the giant in search engine market and no one is near it. So, to answer the original question, most likely there will be a Page Rank Update at the second week of January 2010 may be at Jan 14th, 2010. But if it does not happen then do not blame me because I am no way related to the mighty search engine.

Google Site Links


Google Site links are a collection of links that appears below the result of a website. These additional links link to main pages of the website. They are randomly and automatically chosen by Google's algorithm.

Site links show up most often for searches on brand names.

Which links does Google use for the Site links?

Google seems to use the first level links on a website for the Site links. That means that all links that are not present on the homepage of your site won't be used as Site links.

The links should be descriptive text links or image links with a descriptive IMG ALT attribute. JavaScript or Flash links are not considered for Site links. Google uses 2 to 8 links for the Site links of a website. Unfortunately, it's unclear how Google assigns the number of links to each website.

The text that is used for the Site links can be the texts that are used for the link (anchor text) on the homepage or the title of the linked page. It seems that Google prefers links that appear at the top of a web page.

How can you get Site links for your website?

Unfortunately, there is nothing certain about Google's Site links. The following factors seem to influence whether Google displays Site links or not:

1. Your website must have a stable #1 ranking for the searched keyword. Other websites don't seem to get Site links.

2. Your website must be at least 2 years old. It seems that younger websites don't get Site links.

3. The number of searches and the number of clicks that your website gets for a certain keyword seem to be considered. Keywords that aren't searched often enough don't get Site links. It also seems that your website has to get many clicks for the searched keyword.

4. The numbers of links that point to your website with the searched keyword as the anchor text seem to influence the creation of Site links. Site links only seem to appear for the main keywords of a website, not for all keywords for which a website is listed.

If your website meets these criteria Google might assign Site links to your website for your most important keywords.
